So We Did a Thing...

www.300cinnamonbuns.com

It’s been a while since we wrote. We’ve been busy. We have had a small project going on for the last 10 months or so. We bought an apartment! I guess we will be staying in Stockholm for a bit longer. This is us after signing:

Happy new owners!

We bought a lovely apartment last April. The previous owners were older and asked for some time to look for a new place to live so we gave them an extended closing. Which was fine because we love our current rental, and it allowed us to host many visitors over the summer. Our new apartment is lovely. It’s right around the block from where we live now, so the Cinnamon Sticks stay close to their friends and a neighborhood we all love. Here are some pictures:

The apartment was a rental originally, so the kitchen was quite basic.
A gorgeous dining room with fantastic details
A lovely family room in the corner
A bedroom with the only original tile fireplace.
Spacious master bedroom.
It has two bathrooms. True to form, they are tiny. But remember, it was built in the 1800s and back then they used bedpans!
It even has an office for Mrs. Cinnamon Bun. South facing so it gets the best light in the apartment.

It was a lovely apartment, but since we had all this time before moving in, we thought, “We should see if we could do some renovations!” Having seen copious amounts of HGTV renovation shows, we felt well qualified. We quickly found designers whose work we loved. So we went for it!

The process was equal parts terrifying and exciting. Like everything associated with our Swedish adventure, it was much harder than we imagined. Take a normal renovation, add a really, really old apartment, a foreign language, rules and regulations that you have no idea how they work, and, well, you get the idea.

Our lovely apartment went from the above pictures to this:

And this:

Yes, those are reeds in the walls from the original plaster.

Let’s just say it got a lot worse before it got better…

To be continued…
